Future Appin A 20-year vision transforming Greater Macarthur

Project Vision

Three connected, sustainable communities

Our vision for Appin will deliver 13,000 family homes alongside new infrastructure over the next 20 years. Located 15 minutes from Campbelltown CBD and Western Sydney University, 25 minutes from the beautiful beaches of Wollongong and a short drive from the Southern Highlands, Appin is nestled amongst a picturesque and culturally rich landscape.

Our planning for Future Appin prioritises connectivity, conservation and infrastructure alongside family homes. The communities will be serviced by new major roads and transport links, essential drinking water and wastewater, high speed broadband, four new schools catering to kindergarten to Year 12, healthcare services and a future business park creating over 10,000 local jobs.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure and convenience

Major infrastructure will be delivered in stages to service the needs of Appin’s growing neighbourhoods. Critical road and public transport upgrades will improve connections from Appin to Campbelltown-Macarthur, Western Sydney Aerotropolis, Wilton, Wollongong and the Southern Highlands while preserving the character of Wollondilly Shire’s heritage townships and creating safe new passages for wildlife crossings.

Schools, open spaces and jobs

As our neighbourhoods expand, infrastructure will be delivered to support more families moving into the area. New primary and high schools within walking or riding distance from homes and over a million square metres of public spaces—parks, playgrounds, sports fields, and a regional park—will be delivered alongside a new business park, creating thousands of new jobs for professionals to live and work locally.

Conservation

Respecting the environment

Appin’s unique landscapes will be celebrated and integrated into each neighbourhood with one-third of the project site preserved for conservation. Walker are dedicating five million square metres of conservation land to the people of NSW, with a further 400,000 square metres being revegetated throughout Appin to expand wildlife habitat and koala corridors.

A masterplan connecting to Country

Located on the lands of the Dharawal People, Appin is a place of significant cultural heritage. Working with First Nations representatives will ensure our Appin communities reflect the significance of Aboriginal connection to Country while working together to preserve treasured National Parks and watering holes along the Nepean and Cataract Rivers.

Conservation

Key environmental commitments

  • Land protection and regeneration

Appin dedicates 500 hectares (one-third of the site) to the protection and rehabilitation of conservation corridors for wildlife and their surrounding habitat.

  • Scientifically backed

Walker will deliver the first conservation dedication plan under the CPCP (Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan) endorsed by the NSW Chief Scientist.

  • Wilton Greenfield Housing Code

Walker is the first private developer to commit to the Wilton Greenfield Housing Code which will deliver greener, cooler streets with a 40% tree canopy.

  • Improving bushfire resilience

Bushfire mitigation strategies will be embedded in the community design and landscape with safe zones and improved evacuation options servicing the region.

Lifestyle

Space for families to grow

Our Future Appin communities will deliver a major boost to NSW’s housing supply, providing nearly 13,000 homes for families over 20 years. A range of housing options and lot sizes will provide homebuyers more flexibility and choice, with options including the traditional family house with a backyard, terraces, townhouses, and retirement living.

Live and work locally

A major new employment hub will provide residents more opportunities to live and work locally. The $1.9 billion Macarthur Business Park, currently in planning, will create job opportunities for over 10,000 professional and skilled jobs on Appin’s doorstep, so residents won’t need to commute to Sydney CBD for work.
